Happy Women's Day 2020: Is gender equality finally getting achieved in India?

It is the international women's day. Every year it gets celebrated on the 8th of March. In this time and age, people look beyond the gender gaps and equal opportunities are handed to everyone. There was a time when the entire world used to think that women cannot do a certain kind of stuff. They are to sit at home and be a nice housewife but that stigma has been removed for good. In countries like USA, Japan, China, Canada women are getting equal opportunities as men and they are really making the best of it. But the question remains, is gender equality finally getting achieved in India in 2020?

There was a time when women in this country were treated really badly. We go way back to Mahabharata where Draupadi got married to five men but that wasn't it, she was traded in a game of gamble. Sita mata had to get burnt alive in order to prove her loyalty to Ram. When it has happened in our books of history, you can only imagine what would have been the case with the other women in society.

The times have definitely changed and people who can think right know what women are capable of and what they can do with their capabilities. The safety for women remains an issue in the country with all the rapes that are taking place around. But the most important part is the self respect that women have for themselves. It was missing in past eras which led to the male dominance. Feminism in India has been spread widely and for all the right reasons as well.

India ranks 95th out of 129 countries in the Gender equality index in 2019. It means that there are a lot of things to be done in order to maintain the equality. The government is doing their level best to tell women how powerful they are and how much they can achieve. The female population of this country cannot just go toe to toe with the male counterparts but they can overshadow men in a lot of aspects.

It is all about treating the women right because whatever you are going to give a woman, she will always make it greater. You give her a sperm, she is going to give you a baby. You give her a house, she is going to give you a home. You give her a grocery, she is going to give you a meal.

It is time to change for the better, for the good, everyone's good. Happy women's day 2020!
