Unheard 21st century Indian films that deserves a watch

Cinema is something that attracts the masses. With TV series and movies getting aired through digital platform, the reach has widened. In a country like India, Cinema has always been the priority. Since the launch of Cinema in early 20th century in India, the movies have been consistently produced. The budgets are soaring like nothing and the number of screens have increased rapidly as well. In the late 20th century, the reach of Indian cinema went global and people watch Indian films with whole lot of interest in any given part of the world.

Cinema is produced at such a rapid rate in this country that some films don't get talked about despite of being a great cinematic experience. These films have great content but due to several reasons, they fail to make a mark. Here are some of those unheard films from 21st century which should be watched at least once:-

                      Black Friday

One of the earliest works of Anurag Kashyap, this film is truly a gem. Based on 1993 blasts in Bombay, the movie depicts the events that led to the blasts and aftermath of the blasts to find out its real cause. It's the first full blown film directed by Anurag Kashyap and it might just be his most prominent work as well. If you want to know some bits about the incident, you definitely need to check this film out! 

Being Cyrus 

Starring a very popular actor in Saif Ali Khan, it's a bit surprising that most people don't know about this brilliant film. Saif Ali Khan plays Cyrus Mistry who gets into the house of a Parsi family. This basic story is followed by various twists and turns which leaves your jaws dropped. You need to watch this film at least once! 

No Smoking

A film way ahead of its time, No Smoking was released back in 2007. Based around a chain-smoker named K who's played by John Abraham, the movie depicts the life of a smoker and the worst circumstances he has to face to quit smoking yet he doesn't feel the same way. This film has one of the best screenplays in past decade or so and can be regarded as a classic! 

Bheja Fry

Unlike the nonsensical comedies like Total Dhamaal, Golmaal Again which are produced in recent times, Bheja Fry is an actual comedy which leaves you in splits. The movie is based around two characters, Ranjeet Thadani and Bharat Bhushan. Ranjeet is facing toubles in his life and Bharat does nothing but increase his problems. Vinay Pathak as Bharat Bhushan totally steals the show! 

Hey Ram

 Based on backdrops of post-independence riots, the film depicts life of Saket played by Kamal Hassan whose wife gets raped and murdered during the riots by Muslims. He decides to join a party who wants to kill Mahatma Gandhi because of the peace he advocates with Muslims. SRK plays a very important character in the film along with Kamal Hassan. If you want to get to know the real life circumstances about post independence riots, this film is a must watch! 

Matrubhoomi

If you're a woman, this film will be a painful watch. It depicts the cruel circumstances that a woman has to face in the rural areas of Uttar Pradesh & Bihar. A father buys a woman as his daughter-in-law to satisfy the sexual desires of all the males in the family that includes 5 of his sons and him himself. The torture that a woman has to face is depicted so naturally and beautifully. Based on true life incidents, this film might be a shocker and an eye opener.

                A Death in the Gunj

It's the most recent film to be released on this list. Made by a debutante director who has been a fantastic yet underrated actress, Konkona Sen Sharma depicts the life of an innocent man called Shutu. The character is played impeccably by Vikrant Messy. The soft spoken and gentle nature of Shutu is put forth and the circumstances that he falls into are presented beautifully in this film which makes it a great watch!
